We know what to do with the main characters, but what about the others? We put them in stories but then they are forgotten. You put Uncle Joe in the kitchen, but then what? Sally is sitting in the park, what is she looking at? These extra characters need to be doing something or looking at something but make it relevant to the story. If you decided there isn't any reason for Uncle Joe to be in the kitchen, don't put him there.
